I finally tried cake love (someone brought some in). They were are the proscribed room temperature. The icing was a drippy mess (more like melted ice cream than icing). The peanut butter was awful. The cake, even the chocolate cake was dryish and didn't tast like anything. Why is this guy still in business. I don't even want to know how much they cost. You can get better cupcakes at Safeway, including the icing.

I too went recently and tried the samples they had out. Presumably they'd been out for a bit and therefore were at room temperature. I found the frosting to be far too sweet and the cake dry and tasteless. I knew better than to buy a cupcake, having read about the ridiculuous prices; instead I bought a brownie for $3.15. It was terrible. It tasted artificial and off.

I think that people are taken by Warren's (the owner) story of being a lawyer and putting all that aside to follow his dream of being a baker. God bless him for following his heart, but I can't see that it's producing much of quality.

They looked great but I'm not planning to go back and drop that much cash on product that seems to be universally unsatisfying. Also, my three or four tastes of the place have left me nonplussed about its popularity.

I'll stick with Pastries by Randolph, Heidelberg, Krispy Creme, and Arax.

I just tried the new Cakelove in Silver Spring. Not only was the cupcake awful (even after it warmed up on my dashboard for several hours...I still feel like I've for a film inside my mouth) but the guy behind the counter was anything "loving" he was kinda surly and this was only their 2nd day! They need to at least make up for the poor quality of cake with a little love.

What si funny is that their cupcakes are better than their cakes. Yeah, Cakelove's reponse to the media's negative publicity about their cakes was "eat them at room temperature" but now they have been in the media regarding the cakes melting. LOL.

We may eventually get an outpost of one of the NYC cupcakes bakeries. I heard one was goign national but dont remember which. That should be nice.

I know I've posted on the place before, but in Silver Spring I think the cupcakes at the Woodmoor Pastry Shop blow away the ones at Cakelove. I especially "love" the yellow cake with choc. frosting. Really fresh and moist. Oh, and it's way cheaper too.

Not that I've done a lot of baking, but I believe a simple store bought cake mix would be better. I would think it take's serious effort to make a really bad cupcake.

It's in the Woodmoor shopping center at the intersection of University Blvd and Coleville Road. If you're heading north up Colesville from Silver Spring it's on your right just past University.

It's not a fancy place. I consider it a kinda old school neighborhood place. Fresh baked breads, cakes, pies, etc. I believe they're closed on Mondays.

Hope you like it!

I was waiting eagerly for their opening in silver spring and found it an entirely unsatisfying experience. The music was so loud that I immediately wanted to run from the store, when we got home with our cupcakes we found that the guy behind the counter got our order wrong (probably couldn't hear us talk b/c of the music) and the cupcakes were so disappointing, I didn't even finish mine (and I'll eat just about anything if it's got frosting on it). It's too bad - Silver Spring still needs a place to go for good dessert.
