Ok, here's another lulu of a request from me. Two kids(25 & 27) from Charlottesville are spending time in Baltimore as their father has just undergone a painful surgery, and they think Baltimore sucks (probably because they have nothing much to do in hospital other than read magazines all day and the hospital does not have internet access -They had to borrow another patients' laptop just to send a quick email).

So the question is: WHERE can they go to grab some good, not too expensive chow (either eat in, or take out) and what do you suggest. I don’t know the name or location of the hospital, however they have a car and know the area well so its not as if they will get lost or something.

it would probably be helpful to know the name or location of the hospital. i assume it's hopkins, but it could be university of maryland, mercy, st. agnes, north arundel, or a few others, and the eats around each place will be different.

unless you just want a listing of some of the good quick eats in the region.

being 25 and 27, they should definitely head into cross street market. there's lots of stuff there, and by the time happy hour rolls around, i'm sure they'll appreciate the energy and vibe in there.

Not really near a hospital, but if they can steal away for a bit, they might enjoy Brewer's Art on N. Charles St. Good food, lively but not too rowdy atmosphere, and yummy beer too. Also in the neck of the wood, there is the Helmand which has very reasonably priced Afghan food (806 N. Charles St in Mount Vernon). They will do take-out.

If they are at Union Memorial Hospital, The Ambassador Dining Room (on Canterbury Road across from JHU's stadium) has very good Indian food and is available for take-out.

If they're at Hopkins, they're not too far from Fells Point, which has lots of options that are inexpensive and delicious. On Eastern Avenue, there is La Cazuela (1718 Eastern Ave), which is Ecuadoran food. On Broadway, there are some terrific El Salvodoran and Mexican places: Carolina's, Arcos (hit or miss, but not terrible and a beautiful setting). For a neat atmosphere and some comforting and original fare, Peter's Inn is one of my favorites: 504 S. Ann Street in Fell's Point. Nice, intimate pub vibe with a twist. And also, Sunlight Ethiopian Lounge on Eastern Ave (across from La Cazuela) is a relaxed, modest, and filling meal.

I wish I could offer more suggestions for Hopkins. But these are some of my favorites and on rainy days when I'm irrationally angry at Baltimore, they put a smile on my face.

Hoping that your friends keep their chins up and that their father makes a speedy recovery.
