Jitlada Thai Cuisine

Yesterday the San Francisco Chronicle had the following review.

I did not know there was any Thai restaurant in Buchanan Street.

Another gushy Bauer review about how nice the owners are (what does the fact that her husband works for a cargo airline have to do with anything?).

I don't see how he can write reviews like this and maintain any pretense of impartiality or anonymity.

I had the same take, Ruth. He seemed to be willing to overlook a bunch of flaws that would be fatal in other places. Wonder if we're seeing the kinder, gentler side of Michael Bauer? (g)

Exactly. When he finally got down to talking about the food, it turned out it was only ok. With the build-up he gave it (about the owner, how she dreamed of cooking her own way while working for someone else, etc.) I had expected that it would be this amazing, unique culinary experience, not just a nice neighborhood Thai place with overall lousy service.

used to be Now & Zen, the vegan restaurant, which I sadly miss. San Francisco has lost a lot of vegetarian restaurants lately -- Valentines, Vegtime, Raw, Organicity -- what's going on with that?

I haven't been to Jitlada yet, but it's right near Japantown where i live.

"used to be Now & Zen"? I remember the restaurant, although I never ate there.
