I've been hearing about this sushi place on Tarval and 17th for a while now, and finally I checked it out. The staff is almost all Chinese, except for the Japanese head sushi chef and his daughter, who's a waitress.

I enjoyed watching Japanese television shows at the counter. There was a game show on where celebrities had to guess what causes small ticks to proliferate in one's home, thereby providing food for bigger ticks to proliferate. The winning answer, explained by a straight-laced scientist, was that dried snacks, if unsealed in a cupboard above the stove, are nutrition for the small ticks. Go figure.

The sushi was pretty good. I ordered maguro, and the guy gave me a fatty, almost toro piece.
He did good things with ginger and aji, and ginger and katsuo. I'd still rank this place a level below Kabuto/Hama-Ko/Murasaki, but not bad at all. Like Saji, they have wooden masu (boxes) for sake, though not as much sake selection as Saji. Most masu are the property of regular customers, but he gave my friend and me some spare ones. I ordered Karatamba. The flavor imparted by the box reminded me of sitting in a Japanese bath.

At one point, the sushi chef began scolding his daughter about not giving enough information on her order slips. A Japanese guy at the end of the bar said, "Hey, be nice to your daughter!" The sushi chef replied, "I've got to be strict with her so she gets it right."

I thought that only Chinese restaurants were around there.
