I'm taking a training class in Herndon next week, and we're on our own for lunches. I haven't spent much time out there for years, so I wonder if you good people have any suggestions.

The facility is on Worldgate Dr near Centerville Rd/Elden Str.

We'll probably not a have a lot of time for lunch, so speed is a factor. It's all week, so cost is also a factor. I like most types of food except seafood.

Any ideas for tasty, moderate lunches around there?

Thanks!

There is some good Pollo found by going north on Elden. Just past the Giant on the left you'll see a Chipotle and KFC - Pollo Real is behind it.

If you continued on Elden all the way through old town and kept going, you'll find that the K-Mart shopping center area has plenty of choices. Charcoal Kebab is really good for quicker lunches and so is Teocalli Tamale. I'm blocking on the Euro Gourmet (that's close, but not quite), that's just a tad beyond that, but it'd be a good choice, too.

In old town, Jimmy's is good if you have a few minutes more - their sandwiches are very good and are on great bread. You can call ahead and have it ready to go.

There is the japanese place in WorldGate for sushi bar at lunch, though I haven't been now in a few years. I did see last time I was in WG that there is a pho place and a wings place, but I can't vouch for either.

South of the toll road is SBC cafe in the section just south of the clock tower. Also a few other places in there, including an okay pho place, and I believe Minerva does a lunch buffet that's good.

Some coworkers and myself tried teocalli tamale. I have heard all of the great reviews of the place, but didn't find it so appealling. I particularly didn't like the chicken storage technique of keeping it in hot water. I much prefer Qdoba or Chipotle over them, although I did like the atmosphere and the hot sauces.

That K-Mart shopping center is great though, tons of good food to be had there, don't forget about Five Guys, and the Chinese buffet there, which isn't bad and is under 7 bucks.

I'm not much of a fan of the chicken either. I do go for the shredded beef and then of course the Mahi Mahi. Have you tried that? Also, try a side of the pinto beans and pick a hot sauce to add if you like it spicy. They do good beans.

One thing that then always will tip me to them is just that it's always the same 4 or 5 people that work there rather than the McD's worker bees running around Chipotle.

SBC Cafe is just beyond the clocktower plaza and can get you in and and out pretty quickly for lunch.

In Worldgate center itself, there is also TurCuisine, which has Turkish and other middle-eastern fare. We ate there for dinner this week and the food was pretty good, but service might be too slow for you. Perhaps you can pick up a menu and call ahead one day. The kefta (seasoned ground meat patties) was particularly nice.

Charlie Chiang's has a pretty good and cheap Mongolian grill and Chinese buffet.

Supper Club has pretty enjoyable Indian food (from someone who doesn't like Indian much).

Also, if you have a little extra time and a car, consider driving down elden a little ways past the K-mart discussed in this thread. There is a great Sushi place called 'Matsuri'. They have an excellent buffet for like 12 dollars.
