Geyser Smokehouse Is OPEN!
- Melanie Wong
Saturday I headed to Geyserville (off Hwy 101 in northern Sonoma County) to buy some home-grown tomatoes and mail some stuff, and discovered that the Geyser Smokehouse has been open for a week. Fortunately, I hadnt eaten yet, and plopped myself down at the bar. From the seven beers available on tap, I ordered the Smokehouse IPA brewed for the house by Bear Republic in Healdsburg. I asked the waitress to help me decide between the shaved beef brisket sandwich and the pulled smoked pork sandwich. She said that everyones been asking that, but she hadnt had a chance to try either yet herself!
I settled on the pork, mostly because it was a buck less at $6.95, so I wouldnt feel quite so ripped off it turned out badly. Not to worry, this was delicious. The pork was separated into thick and tender shreds of moist and flavorful shoulder meat. Mixed with mildly spiced KC style sauce and piled high on a soft but dense roll with a little bit of caramelized onions and topped with cheddar cheese, this was more than I could eat for lunch. The sandwich came with a choice of sides. The creamy cole slaw was barely creamy and at room temperature tasted rather flat with too much black pepper. The menu said that the sandwich also includes apple butter, but I didnt detect any. I could have done without the cheese but all in all, this was absolutely yummy.
I cant wait to try the brisket.
BTW, Sunday 9/2, is the last day to buy from "The World's Greatest Tomatoes" in Geyserville. That's it for the season.
