Mama's (Mill Valley) rotten service
This is long overdue...
About a month ago Tanya and I came off of Mt. Tam with the post hike hungries. We ended up at Mama's on Miller.
I tend to let little holes in restaraunt service go. This late lunch ranked in my bottom three of all time service wise.
Have you ever arrived at an eatery and found the whole ambiance just odd? This was one of those. I think we came in after the staff had their 2 joint wind down session after the lunch rush. We walked in right behind another pair or diners and were seated on the patio (only 3 table occupied). The young woman (very stoned) that took our drink order disappeared and never reappeared. Another waitress finnaly showed about 10 minutes later. She was clueless about our drinks. We placed our drink order and lunch order with her. She then decided to go play with the dog laying at the feet of some other diners. I am cool with dogs on the patio, and this one was well behaved. I couldn't help but wonder if this herbed up young lady was washing her hands post Fido. Several minutes later the same waitress bops out on to the patio with way to many glasses for her 2 hands (no tray) and I have to rescue her from dropping 2 of them. None of them happen to be ours. I ask about our drinks. I get slow smoked out stare, a couple of nervous giggles and an "oops.. iced tea and lemonade right?". Yes, thank you. she goes to play with the dog. The drinks arrive. At this point the couple that arrived just in front of us is getting their food. I lift my glass and take a sip. I have just been served 12 ounces of neat lemon juice. At this point I simply order up an extra glass of ice and mix it myself. While you know who plays with the dog. Our food arrives 15 minutes later. The couple we walked in behind is leaving. The food was fine. I am not going to go over it because I don't want to endorse this place in any way. Our check was the only thing that came promptly. I left a reduced tip.
I am not a shrinking violet when it comes to complaining. on this particular day though I knew if the ball got rolling I was going to lose my cool. I simply wanted to eat, and go.
I ate at this place once before and the service was slow, but not like this. They try to go the quirky route with the decor and service. This time it was a thorough failure.
I have not been to this place personally but very recently have had some other good friends report on a bizarre meal there, very recently, same type experience.
I must say, your report is hilarious tho' I understand frustrating. You are a good writer. Thanks for the chuckle. I'll stay clear of Mama's.
