i am looking for some out of the way places in the fredneck area, not downtown. mom & pop, hole in the wall places. on a day trip to gettysburg, i ran into a bbq place called "chubbys" right on rt.15, it was so good i ate twice in the same day, once on the way up and back.

  1. I can think of a few, but they are actually in Frederick (not downtown). Chubby's is in Emmitsburg.

On 355, near the FSK Mall is May's. They are known for their crabs and soups. By the fairgrounds on E. Patrick St. is Lohr's, a diner type Mom & Pop place. Finally out on the Golden Mile W. Patrick Street is the Barbara Frichie restaurant. You'll know you are there when you see the giant candy cane out front. Little old ladies as waitresses and homemade pies.

Mays is our seafood place of choice in Frederick. For those who may have been there in years past but not recently....about a year or so ago May's removed the bar from the dining area. The dining area is now SMOKE FREE. A delightful change from the old days. Smoking seating is available in a covered area behind the main building. I believe the May family has recently? purchased the small restaurant next door (Good Food) says the sign.

    2. The finest restaurant in central Maryland is Mealey's located in downtown New Market, just east of Frederick. It has great atmosphere, very professional staff, great food, and moderate prices.

Most people dress up; no flip flops or tank tops, etc. :)
