Need best authentic Indian Chaat place (North Indian style) in DC/MD/VA. Any suggestion? Usually Chaat place has Pani Puri(Gol Guppe), Tikki, Dahi Vada etc. and ofcourse they are spicy and hot. (If my wife approves the place, I will even pay for your Chaat). Thanks

My favorite is to go to Loehmann's Plaza on the weekends. Rte. 50 in Falls Church. India Grand is a small market with a couple of folding tables and chairs in the back. Ignore the steam table with its ancient selection and have them freshly prepare some chaat papri.

In the same shopping center is Punjab Dhaba. They have fresh Dahi Vada on weekends only. This is a great one-two punch. If you are not vegetarian, than Punjab Dhaba also prepares a spectacular tandoori murgh.

As a very good alternative, Saran on Lee Hwy in N. Arlington has good chaat papri, bhel puri, and various alternatives to dahi vada (more like donuts than cakes). Not as good as the weekends at Loehmann's Plaza, but still delicious.

If this place is near you, I once had an exceptionally fresh and delicious papri chat. It is Pakistani:

Kebob and Curry House
Mt Vernon Square
2913-A Arlington Drive
Alexandria, VA
(703) 768-4100

It is south of Alexandria on Richmond Highway, 5 mi or so south of beltway. This was NOT hot, though. Other items here used to be pretty good, but the place has declined recently and I no longer go.

The Sukh Sagar naruda mentions is in Woodbridge and their chat is not as good as this other place, but is fine. Their bhatura is out of this world. They have bhel puri and other north indian specialties, worth stopping by if you are near.
