Hello,
A diabetic relative is visiting me next week and I am having a hard time thinking of a casual restaurant (preferably in NoVa) that would have more than just a few menu items for her to choose from. This means little to no starch or sugar- basically, low carb stuff. We usually wind up going out for Chinese because of the abundance of veggie options. thanks!

If she is going to be here on the 8th, a lot of the Asian restaurants will have specials for the Chinese New Year. The Dragon Sea Buffet in Springfield is having lobster in addition to their usual buffet items. They have plenty of dishes that are mostly seafood, meat, or chicken with vegies. Are you looking in any area in NoVA in particular?

Plenty of choices, of course, with almost any Asian, Indian (either veggie or tandoori), or Middle Eastern (especially kabobs). You'll just have to ignore the rice. My favorite would be Persian - Cafe Rose in Falls Church City. Beef and eggplant stew, lamb shank, kabobs, torshi (chopped hot pepper pickles), roasted garlic, mast o khir (yogurt), stuffed grape leaves.
