Chinese-American Lunch

  • s

Do you like beef stew won ton? Do you like good oniony beef chow fun? Do you like roast pork with gravy? These basic comforts are done with skill and taste at the Mariposa Cafeteria, 1599 Tennessee Street, corner 26th, in SF's Butchertown district. Large portions for modest prices--2CHG get four meals out of the roast pork for under $7. The chow fun goes on forever, a drunkard's dream if I ever did see one; the meat is almost blackened but not overcooked, so the flavor really stands up to the Same Old Brown Sauce. This place is only open for breakfast and lunch, and I don't know about weekends. This is what we mean by cheap and hungry.

    1. This is the kind of Chinese restaurant food I grew up with in Salinas. Keep 'em coming, Shep!
