dinner tonight in Baltimore--Canton/Fell's Point
We're actually going to risk losing our parking space in Federal Hill and DRIVE over to Canton/Fell's Point, so we figured we'd make an evening of it. Current considerations for a not-too-pricey dinner include Henningers, Helen's Garden, Ikaros and Samos. Any recommendations/suggestions? Thank you!

I'd also pass on Helen's. We were there one night during a snowstorm (when the restaurant was nearly empty and we had the wait staff and kitchen to ourselves). The food was mediocre and our server definitely had an attitude. I was not impressed. I think I'd hit Henninger's too. Have fun!

I would avoid Samos on a Friday night, unless you just want to wait and wait and wait. Not pleasant. Have never ever been impressed with Helen's Garden. Ikaros is ok, but I'd definitely take Zorba's over it. And I think Henniger's is fantastic, and probably the most 'neighborhood-y' o & unique of all the places you listed.

I love Helen's Garden, and agree that it's a great idea to take advantage of tonight's discounted entrees. I also love Ikaros. I was just there Saturday night, and had their wonderful calamari. And their prices are incredibly reasonable, especially considering the quality (and amount!) of food you get.

i agree that birches is a great choice for canton, but i may be in the majority who enjoys the food at helen's tremendously, as well as their wine/drink list. alts14620 is right, tonight is $10 entree night at helen's, where i'd estimate about half of their dinners are $10, so that would fit your "not-too pricey" request. the menu on attached link shows exactly which ones are discounted.

perhaps i can expand on the previous post. henniger's is good (i'd recommend birches between fells point and canton and red star in fells point over henninger's, but that's just imo). samos is great and a great value but not in canton or fells point (it's in greektown, as is ikaros).
i'm probably in the minority here, but i have never been a huge fan of helen's food. it just lacks something to me. they do have a good wine list, and tonight is wednesday night, so isn't this their $10.00 entree special night (some of their entrees are $10.00, usually between 1/3 and 1/2 off normal price).
have not been to ikaros. traditional baltimore greek restaurant i understand.
good luck.
p.s. depending on what time you go, you may find parking a problem near hennigers and birches. -
