Oakland Chinatown find

  • g

Came across an interesting store on the edge of Oakland's Chinatown - Tin Sing Co. on 198 - 11th St.
@ Oak St? It has a good selection of dry goods at very good prices. They also supply restaurants and small businesses - woks, wok tools, take out boxes, etc. Very competetive prices.....I saw a Gallon of chilli paste for a few dollars. 6 inch bamboo skewers are not that easy to find - they had them @ 29 cents for 100! 5 or 6 varieties of interesting soaps @ 29 cents - sandalwood, jasmine, etc...Another plus is the plentiful parking - it's on the edge of Chinatown. It usually isn't very busy so you don't have to fight the throngs that are common a few blocks away.

  1. Very cool find. I've thought about having a supply of take-out boxes on hand.

Hmmm, chili paste and skewers, when is the satay party, Gordon?

So sorry to disappoint you but the skewers were for some friends who live in the hinterlands and have a catering business - I was a big spender- bought 3000 6 inch skewers. Cost me about $9.00
I'm using the large size take out containers as gift boxes in addition to their intended purpose. Sorta Martha Stewart of me, huh?
