New Thai place next door to DC Coast (14/K)

Just had first meal there. Scrumptious! Had the drunken noodles: lots of chicken, basil, peppers and garlic, wide rice noodles in a very spicy sauce. Yum! Also, good portion size.

Thank goodness they've finally done something with the space; I've missed the old Cuban place.

Sorry fellow 'hounds, but I just had lunch there (take out) and it's terrible. I had a mediocre experience there about a month ago and I thought I'd give this place another try today ... and I'm never heading back.

This time, I got Thai Fried Rice (with chicken) to go and aside from the non-burnt rice that was layered on top of the rest of the rice, everything was burnt - with random pieces of char sprinkled throughout the dish. On top of the that, the service was terrible - the place wasn't that busy (it was about 12:30).

    Never again.

I suggest Thai Tanic on 14th Street if you're going for Thai food. If not, just get a hot dog from a street vendor - the food will be of the same quality as that from Bankok One.

You realize that the OP and the thread is four year old, right? I'm sure things have changed from 2004 at this place and lots of others.

Nice to hear about a good Thai restaurant in DC. Other good ones are Sala Thai in DuPont Circle, Thai Tanic at 14th and P and one on Prospect St. in Georgetown that I can't remember the name of.

Mmmmm.... and Rice, on 14th Street, for a more modern take on it.

Is this just the same old Thai Place with a new front? They just finished a month long renovation out front, but I hadn't heard about a new establishment going in there.

Hmmm... Called something like Bangkok One? Up till about 18 months ago, it was a good Cuban carry-out but then it was vacant for the longest time. Maybe it was a Thai place for a short time before a renovation? In any event, it has signs that say "new," so I suppose new decor could still qualify as such...

Yeah, Bankok One, that's the place, but it's been there for ages. I haven't walked by there in a few weeks, but it was Bankok One all the way through the renovations (which were just to the front of the building, and not inside). Could they be under new management?

Just confirmed with a coworker, that Cuban place was next door to Bangkok One. Could they have just knocked down the wall and expanded, calling it "new?"

Very possible. Decor was shiny, assertively pastel. Next time I'll pay attention to whether the Thai restaurant's new (?) configuration incorporated the old Cuban space.

In any case, the drunken noodles are sublime.
