Spices tonight was just awful. We should have known better, because the minute we walked in, it smelled kind of fishy. Has anyone else had the same problem?

The tuna in the sushi was unrecognizable, the crispy beef was too all crisp and no beef, and the pad thai was all noodles with none of the subtle flavor that makes the dish flavorful.

My fiancee said afterwards, "I don't care if we ever go back there again."

My experiences have been just the opposite -- some of the best sushi I've ever had.

Spices is our go-to place for take out/delivery. The pan-Asian selections are very good, and the sushi is acceptable if not the best around. Sounds like you just hit them on a bad night....

Spices is terrible. I too have been served extremely questionable food (especially sushi) there on more than one occasion and will never go back. It seems that after they renovated their quality sank and the place is too noisy anyway.

I'll eat my raw fish elsewhere

Spices can be a mixed bag. I've been there when the service was great and the food was just as good. Other nights...It's horrible. I don't really go there any more. The only time we eat there food is for takeout, which has been very consistant. It's probably because we don't have to rely on the service.

Eeeeee, I share your sentiments on that. Pan-Asian cuisine is such a mixed bag anyway (check out the link for a good cartoon touching on the subject), and Spices is right in the mix as one of those places that is VERY 50/50.

Since there are more reliable places for Japanese (Sushi Taro), Chinese (Mr. Chen's), Thai/Vietnamese (all over the place), and Asian tapas (Raku - though I would never eat anything else there), I generally choose not to spend my $ at Spices.
