Asian Supermarkets between Palo Alto and San Mateo?

Hiko Ikeda Aug 5, 2001 08:31 PM

Not many Asians live between San Mateo and Palo Alto. Is there any Asian grocery store in addition to "Nak's Oriental Market" located in Menlo Park?

Yes, there are a quite a few supermarkets, though I only go to a couple myself in the San Mateo area. There's the Marina Supermarket in Foster City. Take the Hillsdale Exit east, and turn right at the first intersection (before the bridge), and it will be in the strip mall on your right. The other one is on Fourth Avenue in San Mateo, several shops east of El Camino. It's chiefly Japanese, and the name of the place is Hiruki (or something like that). Mollie Stone's in Belmont also has some Asian items, but Marina is a very, very Asian supermarket.

The one on Fourth St in San Mateo is called Suruki Market.

I meant Redwood City, San Carlos, Atherton--not San Mateo that has its Japanese residents for many decades.
