We're dropping son off at St. John's on Tuesday, figuring on lunch at Cantlers, and then we have tickets to the show at the Rams Head. Is the tavern there worth eating at, or should we go somewhere else nearby?

I had a pretty satisfactory meal there before a show. Spicy pork tenderloin. My companion was less satisfied with his meal. I can't remember what he had.

Though the food at the Ram's Head usually ranges from acceptable to very good, across the street from the Ram's Head is a little Italian place (Luna something?) that has a nightly $24 fixed price special - appetizer, salad, entree and desert. VERY good value for a pre-concert dinner, and even at regular menu prices, I've found them to be one of the better restaurants in Annapolis, as long as one is content to stay within the Italian genre (including veal, seafood and such in addition to the pasta choices). They are not an "all things to all people" place - they stick to their niche, and do it well.

The name of the place I referenced is either Luna Blu or Luna Blue, according to a quick google.

Ram's Head is great for beer (well over a hundred selections, plus their own brew) and lunch or sandwiches, but dinner is barely OK. The best thing to do is to go to Tsunami's, on the same block as Ram's Head. Their sushi is good, but their cooked fish dishes are excellent. Tell them you've got a show and they'll get you out in time. It's one of the better places in Annapolis, and frequented by locals. Luna Blue is a good pasta place to bring the kids, but not much else.

I'm curious - what have you tried at Luna Blue that leads to the "pasta for kiddies" tag? I ask because my experience has been so different - I've not had a bad meal or even a bad dish there, and I've gone many times, trying different stuff each time. Maybe I'm ordering types of things that are more their strong suit. Whatever the cause, I'm always curious to try to figure out the reasons when my impression differs markedly from that of others.

I agree with you Warthog. My husband and I go to Luna Blue quite often and have always enjoyed the food.
