I drove by Mario's pizza on Wilson the other day and was shocked to see a Carvel sign. I thought that we NY'ers were out of luck when the Carvel at Rt. 50 & Gallows closed.

Has anyone checked out the Carvel? Is it the authentic soft-serve? How extensive are the offerings? Is it worth the trip?

Thanks!

There has long been a Carvel at Rte 29 near Gallows, near Upscale Resale. Is that the one you are thinking of? I'm pretty sure it's still there....

Wow! That would be the best news I have heard ALL week. I lived for those cakes growing up. The best one I had was in the shape of Strawberry Shortcake...the chocolate crunchies were the highlight!

I may try this week-I work near this place. I will be sure to report back the details!

By the way, I went to the new Mario's location, and you can get a brown bonnet there, despite the fact that there is no mention of it in the store. Are they trying to hide it? The girl behind the counter says that she gets a surprising amount of orders for it, so that says something powerful about people's memories and allegiance.
Unfortunately, the liquid wasn't working properly, so it was just a shadow of what a brown bonnet is supposed to be. Hope they work out the problems soon.

I confess I haven't actually stopped the car to fully check it out, but I noted that there is, indeed, a Carvel on Wilson Blvd. by Mario's. I believe it's technically next to Mario's. Lot was full last warm evening I drove by.

Anyone who knows if they offer the lovely sundae cakes and so on, PLEASE report it.

As a former NJ-ite whose mom did not bake, I have had a Carvel cake for every, single one of my birthdays. And still insist on one to this day. Even if it's one of those Lil' Loves from the supermarket.

The Carvel operation co-exists as a part of Mario's. And, yes, they have the whole line-up of Carvel products.

I've never cared for their ice cream cakes (at least not the version available at supermarkets - it's been ages since I'd been to a Carvel store), but the soft-serve brings back memories...

According to their website, there's a Carvel in Baltimore (7958 Belair Rd) and another coming soon to Gaithersburg on Muddy Branch Rd. Might have to check that one out after a Grand Mart excursion.

Two more are listed as "coming soon" in Alexandria (5801 Duke St and 356 South Pickett St) to go with the Wilson Blvd location.

It's funny; I recently noticed that Carvel while having some stationery printed across the street at Sowa & Nicholas and wondered how I could have missed knowing that NoVA sported a Carvel. As a true-blue New Yorker, its presence is great news, but I have not yet tried it. Now that I have re-joined a gym perhaps I can afford a nostalgia-inducing hot fudge sundae when I pick up my letterheads...

btw...whatever delivery plan marios and carvel are in...they don't charge for the delivery of those when added to another restaurant. You just pay for the original restaurants delivery charge. :)
