Looking to get on his good side, I mentioned to my gfs father that I might be able to locate a pig (around 50lbs) for him to roast for one of daughters graduation. Any ideas? I was going to go to eastern market and poke about. Help! Thanks!

The Amish place in Germantown, called Lancaster Market I believe, has a very full service butcher specializing in pig products. I've always been able to order 20lb fresh hams with only one days notice. They can probably hook you up.

If you really want to splurge, I'd go to the Sunday market in Dupont Circle and talk to the Polyface Farms people.

I'll second the recommendation for Polyface. I love their pork.

They are also at the Arlington market on Saturday a.m.

I purchased an excellent 15 pound fresh ham from Union Meats at the eastern market this past weekend. It might be worth a call to them to check on the availability of a whole pig. 202-547-2626
