Last week I had the good fortune to be driving by Angelo's at lunch time. I've bought nearly every kind of sausage he makes over the years - most are smoked and a touch sweet - and the smoked chickens are really good too. Lunch was a warm North Country sausage on a sweet french roll, a satisfying lunch for $4.75. While I was waiting for my order, I tried all the samples of his jerky and they're all excellent. Just the right amount of moisture and very flavorful.

I stumbled upon Angelo's on a wine country outing, and I make it a point to stop there whenever I'm anywhere near Sonoma. I've eaten more of the beef jerky than anything else, and although I have a preference for the pepper or "regular" varieties, all but the sweet ones are fine to my taste.

Angelo's will ship out of town and the service has always been fine in my experience, a big plus for those of us in jerky-deprived climes.

You've got that purebred chowhound nose, Dave! I don't crave the jerky, but I'm perfectly happy to fill up on free samples. (g)

    2. Every July 3rd I send a friend in Memphis a pound of Angelo's beef jerky for his birthday. He's gotta have it.
