Heavy cream at a reasonable price?
I'm sick and tired of paying several bucks for a small carton of (what is probably inferior) heavy cream at Safeway or Giant. Are Trader Joe's or the farmers markets better about their prices? Ultra-pasteurized, non, doesn't matter to me.
I'm in Maryland, and would like to avoid treking to DC or VA if possible.
Sure. Costco has a quart for (I forget the exact amount) less than $2.50. Sams is about the same. But don't knock Giant's cream. Although it may be pricey, they have a first-class dairy. Safeway ditched its dairy a while ago. When they used Embassy products, it was still first rate. However, they haven't been the same since they pulled the plug on Embassy.

Trader Joe's sells Garlick milk products from Massachusetts, which are excellent quality and very reasonably priced--less than supermarket prices. I know that Plugra and President butters are a dollar or two less there than at Whole Foods or Sutton Place Gourmet, so the cream undoubtedly costs less, too.
If you go to the Arlington farmers' market on Saturday morning (in the Clarendon courthouse parking lot) you can get Shenville Dairy cream, which is wonderful.

FYI, I was at the Trader Joe's on Rockville Pike today, and a pint of Garlick heavy cream is $2.99 (I usually buy it because it's not ultra-pasturized, but I realize you're not particular about that...)

I own a wholesalefoods business in PA, the best price I have found is at a Place called Jetro. I pay 25.50 for 12 qts. You can also buy just one container there too. You have to be a business owner or know a business owner to buy there.
