Too hot to cook?

  • a

I just hate turning on the stove or oven during one of our heat waves.

Last night I satisfied my curiosity about the fish frying service at Ranch 99. I bought a whole fresh talapia (sp?), got a coupon and continued my shopping. Came back in 10 minutes and the fish was done-total cost was under $3.00. This is a once-in-a-while kind of treat; delicious, but, for artery health, best enjoyed on rare occasions. The fish was perfectly cooked, flaky yet moist, and very flavorful without being "fishy". There was a bit of oil on the surface that I blotted with paper towels at home, but the fish was not at all greasy. I served it with diced papaya mixed with cilantro, mint, lime juice and sambal bajak.

Tonight I'm picking up a rotisserie chicken from Colusa Market (406 Colusa Ave, Kensington, 510-527-7035, best to call ahead) and we're eating on the back lawn!

  1. Both of those sound just great. In fact, I was musing about wandering over to your backyard to see if there were any extra drumsticks for sale when I hit a wall of traffic. (see message thread below).
