If you can walk a few blocks, head on over to Penna. Ave & 3rd St. where you can dine well at Las Lomitas, or a few restaurants across the street. Jimmy T's diner is near the Folger at 5th & MD Ave. but I'm not sure of it's afternoon hours on the weekends.

My daughter was attending a Brownies program Sat. at the Sewall Belmont House, so I dropped her off & walked to Eastern Market & enjoyed a little shopping & coffee at Stompin' Grounds. I could not believe the length of line for the Market Lunch. As an alternate, do they serve breakfast weekday mornings - specifically their blueberry pancakes (not Mondays)?

Last I knew, the were only serving the blueberry buckwheats on the weekends. And one particular day, I think--either Saturday or Sunday. Can't remember. I've bailed out from the line so many times out of sheer starvation.

There is a new Turkish cafe (or is it new mgmt?) on Penn between 6th & 7th SE. Ate there last week and loved it: can recommend the octopus salad and turkish sausage: although they offer dozens of other hot & cold mezza.

Depending on how far you want to walk...

Montmartre up at 7th, near Eastern Market, is run by one of the former proprietors of Bistro Lepic.

White Tiger, on Mass and 3rd, has pretty good Indian food, including Malabar curry, which is not always easy to find. Two Quail is across the street from there.

Park Cafe, at the top of Lincoln Park (13th and East Capitol?), has inconsistent but sometimes interesting South American food (not Tex-Mex).

If you want bar food or Mexican, there's a lot of it over on Penn between 2nd and 4th, and again over on 1st and D(?).

None of it is right next door. You'll have to walk at least a couple of blocks.
