Tahoe Tips?
I'll be staying in the Kings Beach area (North Lake Tahoe) for a few days and was hoping to get some recommendations for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks--whatever--as long as it's good. And if anyone has additional tips for places to bring along a dog, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks, Pepe c.
The last time I was at King's beach was about 15 years ago. However - the one thing I remember was this little place that served "broasted chicken". In fact that may have been the name of the place or at least those words were included in the name. It was located in "Kings Beach" which I guess is a town. Broasted chicken is fried chicken done in a pressure cooker (I think) and the result is really juicy, flavorful chicken with crispy, crackely skin... It was delicious! It's my best memory of that trip. That and catching crayfish and having a big crawdad boil. Mmmmmmmm.....

Hi,
Our favorites are Lanza's Italian Restaurant in Kings Beach (south of Safeway, bring your appetite) and Sunnyside near Tahoe City (make a reservation and request the deck weather permitting).

Garwoods FOR SURE - great atmosphere and views, excellent drinks, good service, and the food is really great (for Tahoe standards). Like most things in Tahoe, it is expensive. Family place and it is located right in King's Beach. I wouldn't bother going all the way to the other side of the lake to Sunnyside, same idea as Garwoods, but the food is much better at Garwoods.
Also, as to the post by Phoebe about the chicken place, don't look for it because it's gone.
Two places I highly recommend for intimate, exceptional food (rare in Tahoe) - both are north of King's Beach and not really for kids, but well worth the drives: Jack Rabbit Moon in Incline Village and the other place is right at the "state line" just south of the Biltmore Hotel and Casino, the name escapes me right now, but it looks like a little wood cabin, and the food is incredible. Ask any local around for the name and they'll tell you, reservations are a must.
Enjoy your visit!

The best restaurant we ever ate in (including 3-stars in France, etc.) was La Cheminee in King's Beach. Alas, the state took the property by eminent domain, but all was not lost: The very great chef opened a somewhat less "world class" but totally excellent and more reasonably priced restaurant in the small shopping center opposite the Hyatt in Incline. The restaurant is Le Bistro; I believe the mall is called Country Club.
For about $35 a multi-course, several choice meal (with a few items that cost extra). Everything except the Acme levain is homemade by Jean-Pierre Doignon. Meals include amuse-bouche, appetizer, soup, salad, piece de resistance, and dessert.
Although we generally bring our own, there's a fine cellar to boot. It also has a full bar.
Although it's in Nev., Le Bistro is nonsmoking.(Why can't I link? Tried to link a web site with a sample menu)
One of the main reasons we go to North Shore every year is to eat at this remarkable restaurant--often twice in one week.
I realize I'm being hyperbolic, but I truly love it! I think it's closed Sun. and Mon.
This is a low-key but serious place, not a ho-ho, let's have another beer kind of typical Tahoe spot. Reservations essential weekends, wise weekdays too during the busy seasons.
