I have been meaning to post about two meals I had at Casa Fiesta (used to be El Tamarindo) on Wisconsin Avenue between Ellicott and Fessenden. We went not expecting much and had two superior dishes on our first visit....

--fried whole red snapper garnished with pickled onions and cilantro. I wish the portion had been slightly larger and slightly less well done, but it tasted terrific and had a wonderful texture. Diana had a stuffed shrimp dish which she thought was delicious.

On a return visit, I had the snapper again and again I wished the portion had been slightly larger. Diana and Michael had two different kinds of steaks...and were both very pleased with their choices.

We started with some very ordinary chips and salsa and a lackluster ceviche, but the main courses were primo...

Very reasonably priced also....

This was one of the first local places I ate at about 4 years ago upon moving out here. I really really liked the place a lot and it was a nice welcome.

After much too long I went back this spring. While it wasn't bad, after having explored some of the places in Wheaton and Arlington it seems that they have americanized it either more than it used to be or maybe I've grown more accustomed to the more authentic styles. Anyway, not bad at all, but if you're going for more of an experience I'd go north or south.
