Not sure how I missed this, but Planet Wayside in Hamilton, the original "Crummy but Good" restaurant, is now closed due to the very untimely death of the co-owner, Suzanne O'Neil, on July 14 at the age of 56..

She was responsible for, among other things, their great homemade desserts.

Very sad.

56. My God!!! My wife and I are 56. Bobby Bonds died several days ago at 57.

This only increases my appreciation of everything, no matter how small, that I am able to experience and enjoy today.

I'm 59. Trust me on this. Buy a corvette. As I mentioned below, our drive down to Stoney's for crab cakes last Sunday was great great, (even tho the crab cake needed a second try to achieve its own greatness). While coming in this morning I was thinking about a trip in the car over the Bay Bridge to the Narrows on the next beautiful sunny fall day, top down, to try the crab cakes there. Maybe head over to OC to try those custon-order donuts I've heard about. Fabulous possibilities. This is the stuff real memories are made of.

I have a Lexus SC 430 that I bought last year after a 62 year old next door neighbor had quadruple by pass surgery and two other good friends in their late 50's experienced cancer. One of my greatest rewards is returning from a business trip and putting the top down in the airport garage. Also, at over a year old, it has never been through a car wash. I wash it by hand once a week. This has become a kind of therapy for me. I also put a bench in front of our town house in Reston and regularly sit outside drinking a glass or two of wine while talking on the phone in late afternoon or early evening on business. Of the 31 town houses in our cluster I don't think there's a single one where they don't drink wine. I didn't know this before I started my late afternoon habit.

We probably have similar values and priorities.

I received a message recently forwarded by a friend of Donovan Kelly (Mr. Crummy but Good) that Planet Wayside is going to reopen on September 24, 2003. You may read about this restaurant at my website.
