Source for mail order apricots?

  • j

Does anyone know of a good source for apricots that can ship to Rancho Santa Fe, CA specifically?

My aunt was bemoaning the fact that she has not bothered to buy apricots for 20 plus years due to the poor quality available. I would love to be able to give her the (real!) taste of apricots again.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

  1. C J Olson in Sunnyvale, CA ships incredibly good dried Blenheim apricots. They are known for their fresh cherries (which they also ship,) but their dried fruit is also great.

Here's the link to their website:

      Hi Nancy,

Thanks for the reply. Seems I was remiss in not requesting a source for fresh apricots. I will contact Olson's and see if they can point me in the right direction. Thanks again.

    2. I was just thinking -- these aren't mail-order, but if there's a Trader Joe's near either you or your aunt, they also sell excellent dried Blenheim apricots and they are much less expensive than Olson's. You could probably buy them there and ship them to your aunt yourself for a lot less than Olson's would charge you.

Most fruits have a state board or council. The website for Californias is There will be a list of shippers. Also, Harry and David (.com) also ships apricots. Please let me know about the quality of the fruit you receive.

Wow! Informative site. I'm not sure if shipping my aunt 25lbs of #4 grade apricots was exactly what I had in mind. ;-)

I figured Harry and David was an option; I was hoping for someplace local (norcal) and possibly organic. When making a request like this, I find it best to cast the net as wide as possible. Since I will be driving down to the southern regions of the state in a few weeks, I may just buy it at the farmers market and transport it myself.

I'll post info on what, where and the quality of the fruit, probably in about a month. Thanks for your post.

        2. I'd recommend Knoll Organic Farms in Brentwood, their apricots are fabulous. Rick and Kristie farm 10 acres biodynamically and usually sell at Marin and Ferry Plaza Farmer's markets. They have a web site set up for mail order fruit. See link below.

            Hi Gini,

I've seen Rick and Kristie at the ferry plaza market. I'll try to find them this weekend.

I'm on the trail and in this instance, I think the hunt will be as fun as the destination. I'll post what I find out.

            Thanks for your post.
