  1. Very good. Also checkout (in no particular order)
Thai Kingdom on K st in DC
PO-Siam on Mt. Vernon Ave. in Alexandria
Thaiphoon both in Dupont Circle and Pentagon Row Arlington.

I think that Po Siam, like Duangrat's, used to be much better than it is now. Instead, try Singh Thai - near courthouse metro - or the one in the shopping center across from Duangrats (I can not think of the name - I think I need a nap).

    2. Duangrat's is very good, but then again, so are almost all the other Thai options in Arlington. More Chowhoundish, perhaps, is Rabeing, which is around the corner from Duangrat's and run by the same people. It is unique in this area in that it features a 'country' thai menu. It is also very pretty inside. On weekends they offer a 'Thai street food' brunch.

      1. Duangrat's is fine but it developed its reputation before the proliferation of Thai restaurants in the area. My personal favorite is Crystal Thai on Arlington Blvd.in Arlington.

I second Crystal Thai, always fresh and delicious.

Ditto on Crystal Thai - their panang dishes are awesome. They deliver locally (yay for me. And it's an iDine participant so I get 15% off each meal. Can't beat that.

Crystal Thai is great - yes, yes, yes! The cinnamon beef is tasteeeeeeeeeeeeee . . .

Re Duangrat's it's good I think though haven't been in some time. Try their smaller, more casual place Rabieng if you can.

Crystal Thai's softshell crabs are outstanding.

If you're looking for Thai in Arlington, I like Bangkok 54 (on the Pike) and Sawatdee (at Court House) better than Crystal Thai, although Crsytal isn't bad (their air-dried beef appetizer is yummy...)

                3. Duangrats is very good. It's one of our favorite places and the best Thai food in the area. Always consistant, always good. The wait staff are very friendly as well.
Check out the Thai dancing they do upstairs on the weekends.

                  1. I think Duangrats and Rabiengs are both very good. If you go to Rabiengs, I recommend getting the sticky rice in place of the regular rice with your meal.

Paya Thai in Tysons is the sister restaurant of Crystal Thai, same owner, and just as great, especially the softshells!

I have had a meal at Duangrats several times a year for years. It has been slowly going down hill. Alas two months ago it dropped off my list - it was bad. Try Ruan Thai in Wheaton. Much better food, much better price alas not as pretty.

                      2. Sawatdee Thai at Courthouse metro is my favorite. I find myself there very frequently, i usually try different dishes, and I have never been disappointed. Great red curries!

                        1. Boy, is this an old thread. Plus we have beaten the "best Thai" discussion into the ground. Nevertheless....Dungrat's is where I would take my 80+ year old mother. It is a Thai's idea of what an American's idea of what Thai restaurant should look like. Rabeing is the same food without the "ambiance." The food at both is highly Americanized.

Just go to Thai Square if you are in Virginia.
