Has anyone been to this place? Heard it's got v. good HK style seafood (live in tanks), etc. Would love advice on what's esp. good to order, what not to miss, etc. thanks!

I remember an excellent dish at Koi Palace, the precise details which escape me. I think it was honey smoked sea bass and it was terrific.

I would suspect that you had smoked black cod (also known as sable). I haven't had KP's verion yet. This dish was first brought to the Bay Area about 10 years ago by the chef at Empress in Burlingame who learned how to make it in Vancouver. The dish takes about 30 mins. to prepare, but it's usually worth the wait. The carmelized edges are the best, no?

The dish I've enjoyed a few times at Koi Palace is a lobster with glass noole/ vermicelli dish. I can't remember what it's called on the menu, but the Cantonese name means Malay lobster. The seasonings have lots of ginger, a touch of curry and an elusive tropical sweetness that tastes like a little pineapple and/or coconut.

KP is really good for fresh seafood. i ate there last mother's day w/ my father's family and everything was really good and fresh. i haven't tried their dim sum yet though. C-

Great, thanks. Is the suckling pig on the regular (evening) menu, or is it just a lunchtime dim sum thing?

The suckling pig is offered at dinner time, but they can run out early.

      3. Koi Palace is very fine restaurant. Much fresh seafood. We like their hot & sour soup with ginger-seasoned dumplings.
Fresh/live prawns with garlic sause are also verry good.
Crab in hot/spicy salt. Fresh crab, coated with salt and fryed. Messy but great.

Dim sum lunch is excellent, too.
