First, I will disclose again that my boyfriend is the bartender at Lapis, so I will not make any remarks about the caliber of quality of the restaurant.
However, I do want to disclose that the executive chef, Thomas Ricci, returned yesterday from a month spent opening a new restaurant in Dubai (part of the United Arab Emirates).
It was Thomas' first excursion out of the U.S., so if you are a fan of the restaurant, it may be interesting to see how the menu changes in the next few weeks.

I don't know what's happening with the Port Authority...though the issue is a source of regular jokes now. I don't think the owners ever meant for it to be an issue in the limelight.
Funny that the article was on the front page of the paper...It didn't seem like it should rank up there with the China-US tensions, power outages, etc, etc.
I guess we San Franciscans do love our food stories though....
I recently returned to Lapis after being scared off by the rude service (waitstaff, not bar) a couple times right after they opened. I am glad to report that when we dropped in last Wednesday night without a reservation everything was great. The food was better than I remembered, the waiters were friendly and pleasant. I'd been avoiding the place after the early bad experiences, but I'll be back soon and now whole-heartedly recommend it!
