What Ever Happened to Sunflowers in Frederick, MD?
I'm hoping someone can tell me what happened to a delicious restaurant that used to be in Frederick, MD called Sunflowers. It was an interesting restaurant in that it leaned towards Mediterranean style cooking, it was buffet style, and they made their own Cesear Salad dressing.
My mom and I ate there once a week and then one day it literally shut down. I mean, we ate there on Friday and it was closed if not the next day, the day after that. No notice of where they moved to (if at all) nothing. Just gone.
Any information would be appreciated.
I know this is an old post but I just found it. If the owners of Sunflowers ever see this I want them to know that Sunflowers might have been my all-time favorite restaurant. Since we are early eaters we enjoyed dinner and were gone before the commuters and their kids arrived. My husband and I easily ate there twice a week....especially loved the cumin pork, the white pizza, the salad selection. After all these years I still miss it.
You are right, it did disappear quickly. My feeling is that the restaurant is so large that it didn't make any money. I know the Mexican place is there now, and it is always empty so I wonder how they stay in business. Sunflowers was a fun place, my daughter went there for a pizza making camp once. As far as I know, they never reopened anywhere else.
That's surprising, I thought they were doing very well. They stayed busy and I spoke to the owners on more than one occasion, never giving a hint that there was a problem. Actually, they were suppose to cater the local theater group (attempt at a dinner theater?) and they'd been approach to open in Silver Spring or Bethesda instead (which they declined to do).
I'm wondering if it wasn't health related. I say this because that last night I ate there, I got a nasty case of food poisioning (the toilet is my friend, the toilet is my friend). As I was leaving the restaurant that night, a large bus load of people were coming in. I've always wondered if the handmade dressing was to blame (not stored at the right temp.) and a large number of people got really sick.
I still miss the place.
