Restaurants in Ballston Mall and Rocklands

Are there any good place to eat in the Ballston Common Mall ?
And what about Ricklands BBQ on Fairfax Drive.
We do not have a car during our stay in Arlington and i would like to know if there is a Metro stop close to Rocklands, or would i be better off with the one in DC ?

  1. The Rocklands on Fairfax Drive is only a couple of blocks from the Ballston metro stop.

I think the restaurants in the Ballston mall are mostly chains. I think you'd find a better selection in the Clarendon area, if you want to stay in Virginia, or if you go into DC.

    Are you staying in Ballston?

I am staying at the Residence Inn Rosslyn and do not have a car while there.

Diagonally across the street from the Ballston metro is Flat Top Grill - kind of like a salad bar gone hot - you choose your meal from the varied selections and sauces then give it to the chef to cook it. It can be quite good if you make the right choices. Rio Grande is also right across from the Ballston metro (great Tex Mex) and Tara Thai is about 2-3 blocks north, across the street from Rocklands BBQ (which I think is excellent - don't miss the side dishes!) All of these restaurants are on N. Fairfax Drive and are easily walkable from the metro. I've also heard great things about Food Factory (mentioned above) but have never been there - that is also on N. Fairfax, in the back. Good luck and happy eating!

i can't believe no one's recommended food factory.
you enter through the parking lot of the strip mall
that's on fairfax drive - the one with the chinese place on the corner.

incredible kebabs, great naan, and vegetable dishes that can often be just a little bit too oily.

      3. The restaurants in the Ballston Commons Mall are chains: Memphis BBQ, Romano's Macaroni Grill, Chicken Out Rotisserie Chicken, Chevy's Mexican, and Rock Bottom Brewery. Oh yes, and the ususal suspects in the food court. They're all o.k. if you like chain restaurants (my husband unfortunately does -- he made me eat at a TGIFriday's in England -- so we've eaten at them all because we use the subway parking at the mall every day and they're convenient). There's also a Pizzeria Uno across Wilson Blvd. from the Mall.

        1. There are a few good places outside the mall as well - there is a Tara Thai near there.

            There's also Rio Grande Cafe.

          2. there is a divey
            pakistani eatery
            across from the mall
            on fairfax st.
            same block as hunan gate
            on the other side
            of the 7-11.

The "divey Pakistani" is probably Food Factory, which I think is Afghani, and is wonderful...very homemade type cooked dishes and including somosas, many kebabs, and great Naan. It's just east of the intersection of Fairfax Dr and N Stuart, directly across from the Ballston metro stop.
