Any exquisite restaurants in the Hagerstown, MD area?

  1. When I went to Prep school in the area back in the late 70's, early 80s, the only good restaurant in the area was the Airport Inn. Not surprisingly, at the airport. And perhaps only a little surprisingly, it was quite a nice place (white linens, etc.).

I'd be curious to hear if that is still true.

I have never been there but it is still advertised as a fine dining restaurant featuring seafood. It is the only place that I have heard of in Hagerstown that calls itself that. There is a good German restaurant that I have been to, but it is casual with patio dining. Forgive the spelling, but it's called something like Stenkersteubel. It is the only place in Hagerstown that I can recommend personally.

The Schmankerl Stube in Hagerstown is probably the best authentic German Resturant in the greater Baltimore/Washington Area. The dining is casual but like that in most German Gasthaus. Check out their web site ( )

    2. Nick's is still there and still does a good job....overall better food can be found in downtown Frederick.....

      1. You need to try LJ's and the Kat Lounge! By far the best food I've had in Hagerstown. Wonderful atmosphere, nice dining room (with open kitchen at one end). The wine list is great, but VERY awkward (individual 3 x 5 cards in a file box), but the food and service more than make up for it. Seasonal menu with specials changing twice weekly.

Here's the website (with menus and directions):

        1. I don't know any exquisit restaurants, but the AC&T by the outlets has some very good fried chicken, potato wedges, mac and cheese and other sides, but it isn't fine dining which is what you are looking for, your best bet may be to drive over to Fredrick.
