I grabbed some takeout from Ba Le, 511 Jones between Geary and O'Farrell for lunch a while ago. They were really nice and friendly there. I picked 3 grilled chicken skewers, some nice thin chow mein noodles from the steam table, shrimp salad rolls, a roast pork sandwich, two orders (6) of pot stickers, a coconut-bananna-tapioca pudding and a couple of drinks for $15. This was more than enough for two for lunch, and several other people grazed off the meal as well.
Very tasty stuff and freshly made, even the chow mein from the steam table--it was nice and not greasy like a few of the horrid places in Chinatown (You's). I have not seen pot stickers at a Vietnamese place either, but the guy behind the counter said he is Chinese but raised in Vietnam, and he just freshly made the pot stickers. They were so good, very tender dough. The shrimp salad rolls were made that minute, the chicken good. The sandwich was okay, but a little dry and not in the same class as Saigon Sandwich. The coconut-banana-tapioca topped with peanuts was seriously good and put all other's (especially the one from Saigon sandwich) to shame. If you have a kid you must get this for them.
I am looking forward to trying a few other things from there. There are a few tables along the side of the store for on the spot eating. Day only, they are closed at night. Across the street from Shalimar.
