Is $10.00 a reasonable price for 500g of Mascarpone reasonable? Other than the Italian Store in Arlington, are there any other local establishments that carry it? Though I do not normally endorse purchasing import Italian goods form chain supermarkets, they are certainly more appealing than a 45 minute drive to Arlington for one ingredient ;).

Try Magruder's or the fancy Giant for mascarpone and
Italian ladyfingers. They also have Pilon espresso in
the black bag (the good stuff).

I have seen Mascarpone for sale at Fresh Fields and even at my local Safeway, Trader Joe and Harris Teeter markets. They are all much less than $10 per 500g, and all have been fine in my estimation.

I've bought marscapone within the last 6 months from the Italian store and don't remember it being $10.00.

Beware buying marscapone from Fresh Fields in Clarendon: every time I attempted to buy it, it was frozen and/or past its expiration date.

try Eastern Market -- Bower's Dairy. Good to get there early in the am or things can get crazy (on Saturdays and Sundays.) They have a phone number -- that I don't know off hand -- so you could call in advance to check. I think they can order any cheese you want -- I know I got some fancy dried ricotta there a couple of years ago.
