Birthday Dinner - Need help

It's my finacee's birthday and I tried to get reservations at Kinkeads this friday but it's booked. We just got engaged and moved, so we really need a nice evening out together where we can have a great, relaxing meal and wine. I don't want to take him to the usual suspects like Morton's, the Palm, etc, but can't quite swing something as expensive as Galileo's. Any suggestions are welcome.

  1. I am not sure where you live, but I would suggest going to Monroe's American Tratoria in the Del Ray section of Alexandria.

The food is outstanding and not pricey. The menu is very diverse but tends to lean to Italian.

The owner is very into wine and has a great list. The best thing about the wine is that he doesn't mark it up like other places do. He wants more people to get into having a nice bottle or glass of wine to complement their meal, so he keeps the costs down.

    1. Try the Sea Catch in Georgetown. A great place to have a special meal. Great fish, great atmosphere.

I love Monroe's but I think of it as more of a neighborhood casual place. If you want something special in that neighborhood try the Evening Star on Mt. Vernon Ave. It's where my husband and I went the night after we got engaged! (and when he got a promotion, and when I got a new job...)

If you like sushi try Kaz Sushi bistro - another place for a special dinner.

      And congrats on your engagement.

      1. Cafe Atlantico (near the MCI Center) is different, fun, and inventive.
