Where to eat S.F. near Golden Gate Theatre?

  • b

Looking for a good (not expensive, not cheap) restaurant to eat before Saturday night theatre, parked near the Golden Gate Theatre at Taylor & Market.

  1. Original Joe's on Taylor St is one of the best moderate restaurants in SF. You will have to walk a block or so from Market, which is vintage tenderloin. If you are planning to eat by 8:00 PM curtain, no problem. It is THE classic Joe's style restaurant...packed with regulars, no reservations, hearty drinks, generous food, clean and very reasonable...that's why its been there for over 60 years. Don't expect your food to be piled daintily in a tower...and if you are not REAL hungry, split an order (slight charge). If you are there on a Friday, order the fried calamari.

    1. Original Joes has a char-broiler that they make great steaks in. It is served with overcooked veg and mushy pasta, but is well worth ordering. I'm not sure I would be brave enough to order anything else. The old-style booths are great.

Belon is also close for raw bar, mussels and frites and bistro dishes. 25 Mason at Turk. Menu attached.

If you are not familiar with the area, it is pretty scuzzy at night.
