Celebration Dinner - Old Angler's Inn?

Looking for a nice spot for two couples to celebrate a special occassion in style. Either DC or Maryland. Was thinking about Old Angler's Inn. Anyone been there lately? Good? I guess 1789 is always reliable, and I like the decor of the Main Dining Room at the Willard Hotel. Want to stay away from the "name" restaurants, i.e. Galileo's, Citronelle, et al. What other suggetions are out there?
For a drink sitting on a sofa by the fireplace in their dimly lit downstairs lounge the Old Anglers is the best in the area. But I've never felt their upstairs dining room offered as much in either ambience or food although I have not been in the past few years for dinner.
You wouldn't consider L'Auberge Chez Francois? In order: Taberna? Palena? Marcel's?
