Soup Dumplings

Hi. I've recently relocated to the DC area from (indirectly) New York, and I'm looking for some of my favorite dishes. In particular, I'm trying to track down Shanghai "soup dumplings."

I read through some of the old messages here, and I tried Chinatown Express (written up in the Washingtonian for allegedly having soup dumplings). I was sorely disappointed.

Any new recommendations or new places offering soup dumplings?

Thank you!

These Shanghai soup dumplings, aka Xiao Long Bao, are very hard to come by in the DC area, and I have yet to find any that compare with those at Joe Shanghai in NYC. In fact, as I write this, I cannot remember ever having them in the DC area. However they can be bought frozen at several of the area's Chinese/Vietnamese groceries, and eaten at home, and that is what I do.

You're right that the Chinatown Express is a huge disappointment. The Shanghai Cafe in Potomac, MD is a hike from the district, but the dumplings are pretty good for regular pork xiao long bao. I have yet to find anyplace in D.C. that will do the savory crab/pork xiao long bao of Joe's Shanghai fame.
