Anyone know if Andale is open yet? Anyone eat there? It's a difficult time to be opening a new restaurant in downtown DC.
I've been there twice and have not been overly impressed. In part, it's because I resent any Mexican place that charges for the salsa for the chips (but not the chips themselves). The first time I went I had a chile relleno, which was ok but not great (too bland). And at $9, not a good deal. The second time I went I tried a sort-of seafood salad, served in a martini glass. It was good and spicy, though the large, raw oysters included with it were rather bitter. And, again, at $14, I thought it was overpriced, too. Next time: Austin Grill (where the food is at least priced appropriately) or Jaleo's. Greg
Have you tried Guajillo in Arlington yet? I've been once, and it was better than any other Mexican place I've been to in DC area (though still falls far short of fabulous by my Southern California standards). At least, they make fresh tortillas and prices are reasonable (no carge for salsa and chips).
It is open....I went for lunch with a group and I was underwhelmed. (I was also underwhelmed with its previous incarnation--The Mark.) Maybe I ordered wrong--I had a pork sandwich that was sort of blah. I tasted the ceviche, which was good, and the tamale, which was spicy--but the whole package didn't make too much of an impression on me.
