A friend recently asked if I know someplace in SF to get fresh boiled peanuts. For the first time in a long time, I had to say I have no idea. Usually I know the answers to food-sourcing questions or at least know where to begin looking. Any ideas?

Don't know of a direct source in SF, but the Lee Brothers Boiled Peanuts Catalog sells them. I haven't actually ordered anything from their catalog, but I love their website (and their writing in Food & Wine).

    1. Don't know where to get them already boiled, but you can find raw peanuts at area farmer's markets & make them yourself (fairly simple). I made Cajun-style boiled peanuts about a month ago with peanuts from Alemany farmer's market.

      1. I wonder if you're talking about the Asian style of boiled peanuts that are juicy, flavored with star anise and are very popular in Hawaii...? If so, you can find them at 99 Ranch Markets. They're actually pretty decent.
