new sushi restaurant in Olney!

  • b

Finally, out in what used to be the boonies....
recently opened WASABI ZEN is a lovely little Japanese restaurant in a strip on Georgia Avenue, just south of the Route 108 intersection and next door to Le Mannequin Pis. The sushi is very fresh and of good quality (although the pieces are perhaps not quite as large as at Tako or Matuba), and while very nicely prepared and presented, the chefs' artistry really shines in the visually stunning rolls. I've been twice and both times the chefs sent over sushi or rolls for us to try on the house. The tempura is very crunchy and tasty, and the seafood teryaki is reportedly delicious.
The only downside is the downtown vs. suburbs pricing, more surprising given the newness of the business. Most sushi items are $3.95-$4.95 for two, california rolls start at $4.50.
I hope this little restaurant gets the attention it deserves and finds a loyal business. Olney could use a few more finer dining establishments!
