Not to be confused with Lenny's, in Branford, which is great, Lenny and Joe's, just north/east of Madison on Route 1 has my favorite lobster roll this side of Massachusetts. It's a no nonsense place, with a no nonsense lobster roll: lobster, butter, roll.

Lenny's is overated. Try Stowes seafood store/resto in West Haven.
Also in West Haven-Captains Galley has a fine roll.
Also in Hamden-try Glenwood Drive-in has great hot dogs too.
In North Haven -Dino's-right off I91 exit 12/13.

Based on some comments on this board, including this old thread, I tried Captain's Galley this past weekend. Their lobster roll is inferior, by far, to Lenny and Joe's - too dry, the bread was not toasted, and the lobster seemed stale. That, and my wife and mother-in-law suffered food poisoning after eating the steamers. Avoid the place and drive the thirty minutes to Lenny and Joe's.

Perhaps someone could suggest a decent place to get lobster rolls in West Haven, because Captain's Galley is not it.

I was also wondering about Stowe's. We passed it last week on the way home from a lovely beach day. It was really hopping!

I found this post when I did a search:

about 1 year ago Roy replied to Michael Hoffman
The original Stowe's and Captains Galley were not the same place. Original Stowe's went out years ago though some of their offspring have opened a place in an old garage about a half mile west of the Captains Galley. Mostly an eat in your car or at a picnic table type place but the food is excellent and ridiculously inexpensive. Great lobster bisque, fried clams ($3.95 for a whole belly roll)and it's also a fresh fish market. Only open during the daytime.

Here's the link to that page

Stowe's sounds like it was great. I think you tried the wrong place.
