Where's your favorite escargot in SF?

I just had dinner at Baker Street Bistro and had their escargot with angelhair pasta, mushrooms and a white wine sauce. The snails were definitely one of the better ones I've had in a while - succulent, juicy and tender. I've been a bit wary of getting snails because there's a tendency for places to overcook them, but these were great.

Now that escargot is on my mind again, I'm curious. Where do the SF hounds go for snails?

Here's my limited experience. I've had good versions at Le Charm (crunchy little fellas with mushrooms) and Chapeau! (baked with vegetables in a thin translucent pastry shell). I thought the ones at Clementine (with garlic and pesto) and Foreign Cinema (Baked with herbs) were a bit too tough. The ones at Le Charm have been my favorite in SF so far. Would love to hear what your favorites are.

  1. We had some at Fleur de Lys that were very good -- juicy, tender, lots of garlic and a slightly crunchy, bread crumby topping.

      Actually at my house. But try as I might, couldn't find any live snails or octopus in Chinatown this morning despite checking 7 fish markets. Ended up with some sea snails for tomorrow's Grand Aioli.
