Any good Greek restaurants in central CT?

  • m

I am absolutely craving Greek food but am at a loss. I have tried internet searches, mostly coming up with pizza and gyro places, which is not what I am looking for. I want the real deal, such as avgolemono soup, moussaka, etc. I am thinking that maybe CT doesnÂ’t have a large concentration of a Greek population, or have I just not found it?

I am in the Glastonbury area, so I would preferably like to find something close by, but am willing to venture out further if necessary.

  1. It's mediterranean....but you might want to give Tapas in West Hartford a try. They have the BEST greek salad ever....all fresh ingredients.

here's a link to their site so you can see the menu...it's not 100% greek but the food is amazing and I guarantee you'll like the food!

We had lunch at Tapas in West Hartford and it was very good, just like smalley said. THANKS for the tip. How many times have I driven through Hartford en route between New Hampshire and New York, and NEVER stopped at a local restaurant. This was well worthwhile. Three miles from the Mark Twain house.

        I third Tapas in WH!

I'm in heaven with the Greek salad, Falafel and a good bottle of red wine :)

    2. Town Line Diner near Walmart, on the Rocky Hill Wethersfield town line.

Your best bet is to go to the Greek Festivals at the local Churches. New Britain's was just this past weekend and they always have wonderful Pastichio, Moussaka, Spanikopita, etc. I think Hartfords is in September and I know there are others too.

Cavos Tavern on the Berlin Turnpike-I've seen the old lady roasting lamb on a spit on the side of the building a couple of times. Also the Akropolis Deli on Sisson Ave.

          both are excellent and authentic.

So, I realize the original post was in '06 but I want to add Caffe Nv in Waterford to the list. We had an excellent lunch there and as far as I could tell was very authentic. BTW I double checked the spelling and it is correct!

Where in central CT is Waterford? I'm not seeing it..

Waterford is down near New London. Probably not "central CT", but hey, it's a small state. If you are in, say, Colchester, you are only 20 minutes away.

Ahh, I see it now. About 3 miles from my grandma's house, I'll have to give it a try next time I'm down there.

        2. My go to place is Tangiers on the corner of Farmington Ave and Prospect in Hartford. It's Mediterranean / Middle Eastern ( not straight up greek ) and the food is fantastic. Good gyros, and great falafel. Great for lunch!!
