Hi folks, the sig-o and I are heading up to Mendocino next weekend for our anniversary. Anyone have any good suggestions up there? We have a reservation on Saturday night at Ledford House in Albion -- anyone eaten there and have any recommendations as to menu? (Their website and menu look awesome...) thanks in advance for tips!

The restaurant at the Albion River Inn is very good. I believe they have a sample menu at www.albionriverinn.com.

Thanks, Caitlin. I did eat at Albion River Inn some years ago and it was quite lovely, although at that time my palate was probably a little jaded because I didn't find it as wonderful as other places I'd eaten in the city -- a little heavy and oversauced. I understand from other friends who were there within the last 2 weeks that the food is quite good and the wine list is one of the best in the area. Maybe I'll give it another shot...

We have been eating at the Albion River Inn for years. Was there just 2 weeks ago. Still the best restaurant in the Mendocino area. I suggest a late reservation.

We ate at Ledford House on the recommendation of a vintner whose name I forget five or six years ago. The night was rainy and our cozy table by the window was lovely. Have the cioppino, or fisherman's stew. Everything was beautifully fresh.

Almost forgot; Our FAVORITE restaurant in those parts is the Little River Restaurant in Little River, tucked behing the Post Office. Only two seatings every night and absolutely wonderful. Simply prepared food with a lot of grace. Meal includes salad or soup for around $15. Make reservations or you probably won't get in.

A friend just got back from Mendocino area. Apparently Little River restaurant has been closed since Memorial Day, though it may re-open again UNDER DIFFERENT OWNERSHIP.

So I get to read about this online rather than hear it from you?!

That's what I've been told, too. . .I hope its not true but will scope it out next week. Jerry always did a great job and I have enjoyed many wonderful meals there.

            Hi

I suppose that everone knows that Margaret Fox closed up Cafe' Beaujolais this past spring. I feel BAD for Mendocino. That's a big loss.

I believe it is operating under different management, so beware, a friend was disappointed in the new place.

                Howdy

There ought to be a law against operating under the same name. That place was a total icon in those parts. It often bothers me when new management takes over a place and tries to assume it's identity. It's never the same. It may be equally great, or inspired, but it's never the same.

On that note, any other hounds that share my passion for cooking at home, try Fox's Cafe Beaujalais cookbooks. "Morning Food" her offering on breakfast is worth the price simply for the coffee cake recipes.

                CHOW!!!!!
