There are 4 Thai restaurants in New Haven on Chapel between York and Howe. I decided to sample them all.
First and worst: Indochine Pavilion - a greasy spoon for students. The lunch buffet ($5.50) is all fried or swimming in grease. There are only about 6 choices, which includes fried chicken wings! Just as bad and more of the same can be found at Thai Pan Asian. Now for the good news: Pad Thai is bright and clean. The lunch dishes run from $5-7 with a choice of 12 preparations, but, alas, no curries. They also have a 3 course lunch special for $8. My favorite is Thai Taste. The seafood curry soup (forgot the name) is fabulous. They also have PEI mussles in lemon grass. Special lunch prices.

You missed my favorite! Check out Bangkok Garden (corner of York and Chapel). Their Pad Thai dish is really the gold standard, and the basil chicken and massaman curry are delicious as well.

Will do. I forget to mention the 99 cent breakfast at Ikea from 9:30 to 11. Eggs, bacon and good homefries with red and green peppers.

Bangkok is definitely the best of the five. I once saw the largest bug I have ever seen in my life crawl out of someone's salad plate at Thai Taste. I don't go there anymore...

Indochine is not what you described. I have found the opposite to be true-lots of fresh offerings-mainly vegetarian.
There are always 2 curries, 2-3 noodle dishes,2-3 chicken dishes, along with 2 rice's,the chicken wings, salad, usually a fried fish offering, soup and 2-3 tofu dishes.
If you want to avoid the buffet-order off the menu.
