  1. Hi Barry

What do you like? San Rafael has one of my favorite mexican places, Las Camelias (4th and Lincoln?). It's not a Cali-Mex, Tex-Mex, or taqueria. Its more like Sunday dinner fare. Try the Chicken mole', and have a sangria. Taqueria San Jose is good, and a good value.

Mill Valley has a great little Thai place called Thep Lela. Thep Lela has helped beat down many a curry jones.

There is a sweet little french place in Sausalito. Christophe, I think. Another good value if you try the price fix menu.

Give em a try and tell me what you think.

    CHOW!!!

Thanks. The Mexican and Thai place sound great. Any good Chinese restaurants in the area?

Unfortunately, the name of these places escapes me, but I've got the geography down. There's a good Afghani restaurant in San Rafael in the back corner of the same shopping center as Trader Joe's. Kinda upscale Chinese restaurant on Bridgeway, on the west side as you're heading south from the freeway exit. I haven't eaten there but my friend designed the interior and it's been getting good reviews. Further south, same side of the street, but before you get into the central retail area, a burger and breakfast place that's a local hang-out and institution - good eats here.

Oops, forgot to say that the two places on Bridgeway are in Sausalito.

Had a couple more mins. before I have to go, thought I'd do a little better by you and found them on the net. Afghan restaurant is Bamyan on 3rd in San Rafael, Fred's Place in Sausalito, and link below for Chinese restaurant home page with menu and interior shots.

                Hey Dogs!

Bamyan is a great place for a bite. The family that owns and operates it are some of the sweetest folks I've ever met. Try the pumpkin, yogurt, and rice dish. This is one of Tanya's (the love of my life) "absolute favorite dishes".

I don't know about any chinese in this area, but Sushi Ran in Sausalito has a great rep. Tanya used to room with one of the sous chefs. I've never been , but the locals swear by it.
