Any suggestions for good dining at a Connecticut marina. Not looking for a place to put my boat, looking for a place to look at boats while I eat.

"Boom", the restaurant at Pilot's Point marina in Westbrook, has been above average in cuisine each time we visited it, and on busy days has a continual procession of boats sailing to or from the sound. I especially like its version of clam chowder (with sweet potatoes!).

There is another Boom in Stonington which has received several awards, but I have not been there in several years.

Considering your description of what you're looking for, I'd say that Boom should be your choice. It's a top-notch restaurant and it's practically surrounded by yachts.

A nice well-kept secret is the Blue Oar, on the Connecticut River in Haddam. It's an outdoor restaurant, and casual, but the food is quite good. lots of grilled seafood and exceptional desserts.

The true magic of the place is the atmosphere. A long porch, and several picnic tables scattered on a patio and deck along the river bank. Candlelight and light-strings sparkle as the sun sets. BYO.

I had been there several times and recommended it highly to friends. The last time I was there (must be about 2-3 yrs ago) they had expanded to the point they really can't handle the crowds they were getting. They have this policy of having you pay after you're done eating which didn't use to be a problem. When I went to pay, there was a line out the door of people waiting to place their orders and I was told to go to the end of the line. I was really po'ed that I would have to wait 10-15 minutes to pay the bill. I was going to leave without paying, but my wife wouldn't let me. She took care of it. I went out and looked at the boats to chill. Needless to say, I haven't been back and I've told many people since about my experience. So if you go, make sure they let you pay when you order your food unless they have changed their setup by now. I'll never go back. There's too many other places to go. It used to be an umpretentious riverside burger shack with to-die-for burgers. I think it's become the trendy "oh we ate at this cute little place right on the river!". Parking lot full of Beemers, Lexuses, SUVs, Benzs, many with NY plates.

Dockside was most recently "Martin's Dockside", the same Martin that bought Stillwater in New Haven (to become Martin's Riverside).
This place seems to have gone through a rapid change of ownership in the past few months!
