  1. Yea I've been there. It's kind of a casual hip atmosphere, sort of like Jumpin Jays only smaller. As I recall the food was very good, not an extensive menu. My one and only visit there was ~9 months ago based on recommendations from Chowhound. I obviously haven't put it on the top of my favorites list, although I would go back w/o hesitation. After my last visit to Jumpin Jays they were dropped from my favorites list due to food quality.

I have been to the green monkey twice in the past but moved out of the area for a year. I had returned just recently to find out they had renovated the whole restaurant and I guess they have a new chef. The food was amazing to say the least...and I am not easily impressed. It seems they have stepped their game up with the renovations! The menu was a combination of different cultures done right. My girlfriend and I travel from Boston to Canada and eat all over when we can (i am a chef so i have little time off) All the ice creams and desserts are made on location "as they should be" I had the zuchinni bread with sweet corn ice cream and wild honey which was amazingly different but delicious. I had raved to my server about the dessert and the chef Patrick came out to our table and explained that he had picked the corn for the ice cream at his friends farm the day he made it to capture the sugars in their best state!
As for dinner... I had the wild alaskan salmon with bacon rendered swiss chard local beets, fingerling potatoes & smoked mushroom butter. Awesome...... cooked rare with crispy skin..my guest had the local halibut with hierloom tomatoes and pureed sweet potatoes. I was also told that the halibut was caught earlier that morning from one of the former employees of the restaurant that had opened his own fish market. The quality of the fish was undeniably super fresh. It had the most buttery flavor and texture. Nothing on it but salt and pepper.I would highly recommend dining at this fine establishment where the flavors are far from boring and the atmosphere is relaxing but yet upbeat.

    2. Love the Green Monkey. Small menu but wonderful food, deliciously prepared. Love the atmosphere. Actually had reservations for labor day but their kitchen hood broke and they closed. Disappointed, don't always get to Portsmouth. Service is nice as well.
